Kate Chopin was born in St. louis on February 8, 1851. Kate Chopin raised six children and managed the family plantation on her own after her husbands death in 1882. Her first novels: At Fault, Bayou Folk, A Night in Acadie, were received with little opposition and won her a distinguished amount of fame. The Awakening was considered scandalous and prevented her from joining the St. Louis Fine Arts Club. Due to the bad publicity and criticism, Kate gave up on writing.
