AboutHim

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, (August 17, 1887 – June 10, 1940) was a publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, crusader for Black Nationalism, and founder of the UniversalNegroImprovementAssociation and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL).

Garvey is best remembered as an important proponent of the "Back-To-Africa" Rastafari movement(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rastafari_movement ) which encouraged people of African ancestry to return to their ancestral homelands. Garvey said he wanted those of African ancestry to "redeem" Africa, and for the European colonial powers to leave it to govern its self. a text on this subject is his article "Africa for Africans" where garvey speaks out for the need of teh Negro people to unite and lift oneanother by creating their own government. This philosophy is known as Garveyism.

Garvey was a powerful speaker to hear the only known recordings of his voice go to the following site
